I know this will not help our chances at all of getting picked for the actual race, but I’m putting it out into the universe: My brother Colin and I have applied to be on the AMAZING RACE CANADA.
The video above explains why we think we are worthy of such an experience, and the real home-run story I think we bring to the table is that we were born in CANADA, but we were RAISED IN AMERICA [We were in California for our formative years, kindergarten through highschool (and even University for Colin!)]!
So lots of time of times we feel like shitty Canadians as many Canadianisms and references are completely lost on us, including, but not limited to:
– Mr. Dress-Up
– The Smoggies
– Today’s Special
– Polka Dot Door
– The Tragically Hip
And not that racing across Canada will introduce us the wonders of Canadian childhood TV shows or bands that never made it in America, but I think it WILL be a good starting point for an alternative Canadian education. Because the race goes to every Province and Territory, it would be like attending the University of Life, and our only subject we are enrolled in is CANADA. And hopefully if we get the honour of exploring all over this grande country of ours, at the end of it we will feel more qualified to rub it in American’s faces that we are Canadian, not American.
So if you believe in #TeamBerco please put out positive thoughts for us (or feel free to write strongly-worded emails to the lovely folks at Insight Productions!), and even if this Amazing Race Canada dream does not come true for us, let us know what else we should add to the list of “Things Every Canadian Should Know!”. We promise to do our best to do whatever you recommend – including catching up on the list above and especially watching as many Canadian Heritage Minutes as we can get our hands on!
