It’s the best time of year again … A GOOD BOOK DRIVE!

It’s November, which means it is my FAVOURITE time of year – and not because of American Thanksgiving or Movember. November means it is A GOOD BOOK DRIVE! AGBD asks everyone to donate a new kids book you think every child should read. There are book drop locations across Vancouver (and Brooklyn!) for you to deliver your book by November 30.

This year I had the honour of being featured, and I shared one of my all-time favourite books: Little House in the Big Woods. As I stated to AGDB, “it’s about a bad-ass little girl living the pioneer life”. ‘Nough said.

Word on the street (from Grown-Up Party’s editor at large and AGBD co-founder Lizzy Karp) is that they are looking for books specifically for 5 to 7 year old kids.

I already shared what my favourite book is for that age range (Laura Ingalls Wilder what what!), but I have enlisted the help of my two nephews (age 7 and 8) for some book recommendations . So here is a list of great books courtesy of San Francisco’s coolest kids, Elliot and Aiden:

Star Wars – this is no joke, Star Wars is epic and timeless and anything related to it is a winner for kids.
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik and illustrated by Maurice Sendak
Bink & Gollie – I had to google this one, but I trust my nephews whole-heartedly.
Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey
If I Built A Car by Chris Van Dusen

So those are just a few ideas if you are drawing a blank on what 5 to 7 year olds enjoy! And there is only a week left to donate, so if you live in Vancouver or New York, drop off a book at any of these locations ASAP!
